Weekend update

Friday we drove down to Phenix City, AL to visit with Jason's parents, Ray and friends. I got some really cute pictures of all the boys, finally. Saturday we went to celebrate my good friend Mandy's birthday with a shrimp boil, cake, Pictonary, and cards. Good times, great friends and lots of laughs!

(Jason, Mandy & Shane)

Shane and Mandy had just come back from Louisiana and brought back a bunch of shrimp. I personally do not eat seafood but the cake was great!

I think we all had a little too much fun...

(All the McCoy boys: Ray, Jason, Jacob & Bobby aka: Papa)

We have a busy week ahead of us. Spring cleaning, filing taxes, Jacob's 6th month check up with shots, Easter pictures for Jacob and my Mom is coming in Friday to visit for a week. My manager Kim http://adamandkimplusone.blogspot.com/ is also due on the 26th so we are all hoping for a speedy labor, delivery and a healthy baby girl Reese. Just breath Kim and put the crackberry down! It wouldn't be our life without a million things to do. I'll keep everyone posted.

Sleeps like his mama

Last night on the way to bed Jason and I dropped by Jacob's room to check on him as we do every night, normally we just stare and talk about how darn cute he is but last night we found him sleeping not where or how I laid him down but at the other end of his crib and on his stomach. As all new mothers know now a day you are supposed to put your baby on their backs to sleep to help prevent SIDS. I figured if that was the way he wanted to sleep so be it. I find it quite comfortable myself. About 15 minutes after I laid down I heard him start to cough and immediately went and flipped him over. I know he is getting to that age were SIDS is not something I need to worry about but its about piece of mind. He also looked so darn cute too.

We were unable to get Ray this past week for his spring break because of the baby having pink eye last weekend. We are leaving town tonight to see him for the weekend so I will post updated pictures of him when we get back. Have a great weekend!

Mommy's sous chef

Just a quick post of Jake helping me cook Vegetable and Beef soup for dinner tonight. His job was to prepare the crackers... (Do not get any ideas Granny, he does not need a chef hat or apron yet. Wait until he can at least walk.)

All things Irish

Happy St. Patrick's Day to All

May your blessings outnumber the shamrocks that grow and may trouble avoid you wherever you go!

Irish Tradition

Many people will be eating Irish food such as Irish Stew and Corned Beef and cabbage on St. Patrick's Day. Corned Beef is not an Irish dish. It is what Americans think the Irish eat. A more traditional meal would be ham and cabbage or bacon and cabbage. Some say that in Ireland on St. Patrick's Day the traditional green beer is prominent. However, in Ireland, many years ago, St. Patrick's Day is considered a holy day and Pubs were not open for business. There were no parades and no drinking.

Irish Humor

Courtship is a time during which the girl decides whether she can do better or not
Definition of an Irish husband: He hasn't kissed his wife for twenty years, but he will kill any man who does.
Irish Sayings
A man that can't laugh at himself should be given a mirror.
A narrow neck keeps the bottle from being emptied in one swig.
Better the coldness of a friend than the sweetness of an enemy.
Be nice to them on the way up. You might meet them all on the way down.
If a man fools me once, shame on him. If he fools me twice, shame on me.
Let your anger set the sun and not rise again with it.

Irish Superstitions

When yawning, make the sign of the cross instantly over your mouth, or the evil spirit will make a rush down and take up his abode with you.
It is unlucky to offer your right hand in salutation, for thee is an old say, "A curse with the left hand to those we hate, but the right hand to those we honor."
If the palm of your hand itches you will be getting money; if the elbow, you will be changing beds.
Breaking a mirror brought seven years of bad luck, while two people washing hands in the same basin at the same time courted disaster.

Shamrock

The shamrock is a symbol of Ireland and St. Patrick's Day is partly due to the natural abundance of clover plants in the country, but largely due to its strong association with Christianity. Legend has it that St. Patrick used the shamrock to visually illustrate the concept of the Trinity (the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit) when trying to convert polytheistic pagans to Christianity.
It was through the retelling of this story that the shamrock became associated with St. Patrick and Ireland's conversion to Christianity. As a result, the shamrock is a widely used to commemorate Saint Patrick's Day, and in modern times has been appropriated by secular institutions as a symbol for the Irish.

Four-Leaf Clover

Although clovers are most often found in nature with three leaves, rare four-leaf clovers do exist. Finding one is thought to bring someone extreme luck. The folklore for four-leaf clovers differs from that of the Shamrock due to the fact that it has no religious allusions associated with it. It is believed that each leaf of a four-leaf clover represents something different: first is hope, the second is faith, the third is love, and the fourth is happiness.

Leprechauns

Just what does a mythical leprechaun look like and why are they so special? A leprechaun looks like a little old man and dresses like a shoemaker with a cocked hat and leather apron. A Leprechaun's personality is described as aloof and unfriendly. They live alone and pass the time by mending the shoes of Irish fairies. The legend is that the fairies pay the leprechauns for their work with golden coins, which the "little people" collect in large pots--the famous "pots of gold" often associated with leprechauns. If you listen closely for the sound of their hammer you might be able to capture one. If you do you can force him (with the threat of bodily violence) to reveal where he's hidden his treasure. Be careful! Do not take your eyes off him for if you do he will surely vanish and your hopes of finding his treasure will vanish with him.

Green

So why do we all wear green? Probably because you'll be pinched if you don't! School children started this tradition. Green is also the color of spring, the shamrock, and is connected with hope and nature. Historically, green has been a color used in the flags of several revolutionary groups in Ireland and as a result it appears in the official tri-color country flag, adopted in 1919.
In addition to that, Ireland is often called the "Emerald Isle" due to the lush natural greenery found on the island. One of the things that strikes people all the time is how Ireland is incredibly green--it's very far north, but it doesn't get frozen. When people say that 'Ireland has 40 shades of green,' they are right!"

Want to be lucky this St. Patrick's Day? Follow this advice:

1. Find a four-leaf clover.

2. Wear green (so you don't get pinched).

3. Kiss the blarney stone.

4. Catch a Leprechaun if you can.

Expect the unexpected...

So the day started off with waking to find Jacob has pink eye in his right eye. Yippie! I called the pediatrician and they called in some drops. He is such a trooper though, still laughing and smiling through it. Hopefully with the drops we will see some improvement in the next 24 hours. I hope me or Jason do not get it.
I left Jason and my pink eyed baby at home and headed for Target. Granny sent Jacob a Target gift card for his "6th" month birthday. (BTW Granny, if you are going to be sending him a gift card every six months he expects the amount to increase every time. HA!) So "Granny" bought Jake 5-7 summer outfits, socks, 2 pairs of shoes and some wall decor to hang in his bedroom. Thanks for all the goodies, Granny/Mom!

I did Jake's nursery in classic Winni the Pooh, I figured if or when we have another baby it would work for a girl too just add a few pink extras and presto sugar & spice and everything nice. I have been looking for something to hang on either side of his window for a while now and just couldn't make up my mind so I bought some of those wall decals today and hung them up when I got home. What do you think? I think I like Tiger the best down there at the bottom batting at the dragon flies. Piglet is missing because he is on another wall.Jason will be going to pick up Ray tomorrow who is out of school next week for spring break and will be spending it with us. We have made no plans as of yet, probably hanging out at the house, you know recession and all. We do however, plan on taking the boys and going to Florida to see my parents and go to Sea World this summer when we get Ray. More to come on that. I will be posting updated pictures of Ray some time next week. It has been a while since most of you have seen him. He is so big now. Love to all!

Jacob is 6 months old today

So today Jacob is six months old. Happy Birthday Baby Boy! I am thinking one of two things...#1 Has it really been that long since I was in the hospital giving birth? It seems just like yesterday. #2 Where has the time gone? He is so big now (17 lbs @ his 4 month check up) rolling over & eating baby food. (see pics & video) He will be starting college next week. HA! I never realized how time flies by all of us until I had Jake. It's amazing how every day something changes about him, mostly his personality. I think as much as he looks like Jason he is going to have my personality. Again my mom got her wish. "I hope you have a child who is just like you someday" Lord help us all!

2/22/09 This is his 1st few bites of carrots. It went well all things considered… he has since eaten: apple sauce, squash, green beans and more carrots. I think we are going to try sweet potatoes tonight.

So I have come to the conclusion that this blog will mostly be about Jacob (because he is the light of my life, of course) so my friends & family who do not get to see him very often can keep track of him while he grows. I will also include updates about Ray, Jason, the goings on of our friends and family and of course myself. I hope everyone enjoys!

3/2/09 He rolled over for the 1st time. Sorry it's a little fuzzy Jason took it with his phone.
